Matters of the Heart

We’re elevating cardiovascular care with our comprehensive, team-based approach and commitment to leading-edge technology.

At Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, our comprehensive heart and vascular center offers a unique combination of academic-level medicine and personalized care in the comfort of our own community.

“Our goal is to provide the best care by offering unparalleled expertise in cardiovascular disease, along with the latest technology, without patients having to leave the South Bay,” says Rishi Kaushal, MD, interventional cardiologist and medical director at Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance. “It’s important to be close to home, close to family, and in an area where you’re comfortable when dealing with issues regarding your health and well-being.”

With expertise in complex coronary artery disease, heart failure (including advanced life-support options), structural heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, electrophysiology and cardiac surgery, our heart and vascular team can diagnose and effectively treat the wide spectrum of cardiovascular disease.

Collaboration is the basis of our cardiovascular program’s success, says Dr. Kaushal. “We have several meetings every week where our heart team—including surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists and nurses—meet to discuss individual patient cases. The goal of the meeting is to gain consensus on the best way to treat the individual patient,” he says. “It’s really a team approach, and I think that’s why we’ve been so successful in treating our patients.”

Our partnership with cardiac surgeons from Keck Medicine of USC has enhanced our collaborative spirit and ability to treat complex cases. “We’re really excited about our comprehensive cardiac surgery program and our affiliation with USC,” says Dr. Kaushal. “What that offers is a team of very experienced surgeons with the latest training and access to unlimited resources that an academic institution like USC can offer.”

In certain high-risk cases, such as the need for a transplant, our partnership with USC facilitates speedy transfers. “With our Keck Medicine of USC relationship, we have a front door into a world-renowned heart transplant and advanced cardiomyopathy center at USC,” says Dr. Kaushal. “We have had success at getting patients immediately transferred who would have not survived without a heart transplant.”

We have also expanded our repertoire of minimally invasive procedures for treating structural heart disease. “This is an exciting and constantly evolving field of cardiology that allows us to treat patients who, in previous years, would not have had options,” says Dr. Kaushal.

While most advanced therapies and procedures—including angiography, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery and structural heart interventions—are offered at Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance, a range of cardiac diagnostics and treatments are also available at Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro.

“We take pride in the fact that we’re able to offer cutting-edge and personalized care in a hospital where each member of our staff treats patients with the dignity, respect and compassion we all deserve,” says Dr. Kaushal. “This is the cornerstone of Little Company of Mary and what truly sets us apart.”
