Joyce Zara

My name is Joyce Zara, I am a Birth and Postpartum Doula dedicated to supporting birthing clients in their childbearing journey with a grounded and compassionate approach. With a focus on providing trauma-informed care, I offer client-centered holistic support rooted in mind-body-spirit wellness and offering resourceful childbirth education. I received my birth and postpartum doula certification with Roots of Labor Birth Collective. I obtained a B.S. in Recreation Therapy at San Jose State University, as well as attended school in the renowned De La Salle Lipa of Batangas, Philippines. I'm passionate about advocating for reproductive justice and supporting each client in having an autonomous and empowering birthing experience. I was raised in a matriarchal village in the Philippines where traditional Filipino practices thrived. Raised by aunts and grandmothers amidst a backdrop of large families and childbearing, my childhood instilled a deep reverence for the sacredness of birth and a commitment to preserving traditional practices. My upbringing inspired me to help hold space for each birthing journey to be honored as a ceremony or a memorable event. I truly believe in the saying, “Peace on Earth begins at Birth.” In my free time, I enjoy gardening, making herbal medicines in the kitchen, dancing, and participating in community work.
