As a resident, Dr. Lauren Swartz learned to care for the rural community by training in the hospital units and clinics of Covenant Health Plainview. Now, the seasoned physician has returning to where it all began, as we are proud to announce Swartz will open her Family Medicine and Obstetrics practice at the Covenant Healthcare Center of Plainview. “I have always wanted to be a full spectrum family medicine doctor, to take care of the whole family from pregnancy to babies to adults and old age,” explained Swartz. “I am from the West Texas area and I am honored to be able to care for folks in this region. I have an agricultural background which helps me serve people in a rural community like Plainview. I did a portion of my residency here and grew to love the community and found the physicians and staff professional and great to work with.” Swartz is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. The physician is also a graduate of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center’s School of Medicine. “Dr. Lauren Swartz is very familiar with our community,” said Covenant Health Plainview Chief Executive Officer Cassie Mogg. “Dr. Swartz will be a great fit for Plainview because she has experience with connecting to patients in a rural setting and understands the importance of developing rapport with her patients. She is a delight to work with and I know she will be a great addition to our hospital and community.” Though she is passionate about all the aspects of her profession, from delivering babies and caring for families, Lauren is also very committed to diabetic health, a topic that led her to become a physician in the first place. “I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 9 years old and those physicians made a huge impact in my life,” said Swartz. “I wanted a career that would allow me to help people. I know what it feels like to be a lifelong patient in this crazy medical system and I constantly endeavor to be a positive influence in people’s lives like those doctors were for me.” Since finishing her residency in Plainview, Swartz has been doing just that, as the physician has spent the last two years practicing in Littlefield. “The best parts of being a physician comes from helping patients and families get through a tough situation, whether it’s childbirth or a serious illness, seeing the relief and knowing I was a part of the healing is very rewarding,” said Swartz “I am a Christian, and I not only have goals to be a better physician daily, I also strive to be a better person daily.” On why she chose to specialize in family medicine and obstetrics, Swartz said she has a passion for obstetrics and women’s health as well as caring for chronic illnesses like diabetes. “Family medicine with obstetrics is one of the only disciplines that fulfills such a broad range of interests,” added Swartz. Swartz is a West Texas native born and raised in Lubbock and is a country girl through and through. Before deciding to enroll into medical school, Swartz earned her bachelor’s in Animal Science then obtained her graduate degree in Cell Physiology and Molecular Biophysics at Texas Tech University. “I married a New Mexican, Doug Swartz, whom I met in graduate school, we bonded over being Ag kids and science nerds,” said Swartz with a smile. “He is a professor at Lubbock Christian University and teaches in the Natural Sciences Department. We have a daughter, Lilah, and two chocolate labs.” Swartz said she has big plans for Plainview and is ready to provide the best care possible for the community. “I would love to grow my practice and to get to know families for multiple generations here,” said Swartz. “I aim to bring a standard of excellence and compassion in everything I do; I practice medicine based on evidence and do my best to stay up to date with the latest medical data to bring my patients the best health care possible.”
