Qian L. Leng, MD

Patients know their own bodies best, Dr. Leng believes, and their doctors are advisors who can add medical knowledge to that intuitive self-knowledge. “My most important role is to listen to my patients,” she says, “and to help them make choices that support their beliefs and are backed by science. My goal is to partner with patients to help them reach their optimal state of health.”

In her practice, she takes a holistic approach that addresses lifestyle first and uses medications second. Dr. Leng completed acupuncture training before she became a physician, and still incorporates Chinese Medicine principles into her thinking. As a certified yoga and Pilates instructor as well, she often advises patients on posture and exercises to help alleviate pain. “I love that I'm still learning new things every day, despite having been a doctor since 2010,” she says.

Asked why she became a physician, Dr. Leng says, “I wanted to have a career that would be useful in any corner of the globe and could help further social justice.” She emphasizes caring for people of all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and people of color. “It’s an honor to be included in people’s lives in this close-up role as their doctor.”

A graduate of the University of Arizona, Dr. Leng earned her medical degree and her master’s degree in public health at Harvard Medical School. She completed her internship and residency at Oregon Health & Science University, and a fellowship with the VA Portland Health Care System. Dr. Leng is board certified in internal medicine.

On a personal note, she says, “I’m married to a wonderful transfeminine nonbinary person, and we have a daughter and two dogs.” Dr. Leng enjoys exploring food from different cultures and hiking with her family. She also loves to dance.
