James H. Nguyen, MD

Dr. James H. Nguyen was born in San Jose, California. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology (Neurobiology emphasis) and Psychology. He then attended medical school at the University of Virginia where he went on to complete his residency in neurological surgery. He additionally completed in-folded fellowships in complex spinal surgery at the University of Virginia and general neurosurgery at Christchurch Hospital in New Zealand.

Dr. Nguyen’s areas of expertise include complex spinal surgery, minimally invasive spinal surgery, and general neurosurgery. He has published numerous peer-reviewed research articles and presented abstracts in these areas. Specifically, his clinical interests include adult cervical and thoracolumbar deformity, degenerative spine disease, revision spinal surgery, robotic spinal surgery, brain tumors, neurovascular disease, and cranial/spinal trauma. He is eager to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to patients, combining state of-the-art surgical technology with multidisciplinary conservative management.
