Shaun M. Burns, PhD

Shaun Burns, PhD, chose to pursue a career in behavioral health because of his interest in the intersection of mental and physical health. “It is critical that we treat not just the physical or mental health of the patient in isolation,” he says, “but that we also approach our work as a team committed to the welfare of the whole person.”

In therapy, Dr. Burns develops a warm, honest and collaborative relationship to work effectively toward a patient’s goals and help them improve their functioning and satisfaction in life. He uses a variety of innovative approaches and offers personality and cognitive abilities assessments focused on identifying key issues of concern.

Working in behavioral health is a privilege for Dr. Burns. “Very few mental health professionals have such an opportunity to advance the welfare of the community and the individuals within this community in such a direct way,” he says.

Dr. Burns received his doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Boston College, his Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Psychology from the University of Iowa.

In his free time, he enjoys reading, playing and listening to music, traveling and taking in the varied outdoor wonders of the Pacific Northwest.
