About Osita I. Onugha
Osita Onugha, M.D., is a board-certified surgeon and assistant professor of thoracic surgery at the Saint John’s Cancer Institute. Dr. Onugha practices all aspects of thoracic surgery, including procedures for benign and malignant conditions of the lung, esophagus and mediastinum. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive techniques that leave small scars, and has extensive experience in treating thoracic surgical conditions using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgical (VATS), robotic assisted thoracic surgery (RATS), laparoscopic and bronchoscopic approaches. While in medical school, Dr. Onugha became the first cardiothoracic fellow to be awarded the prestigious Excellence in Teaching with Humanism Fellow and Residents Award. During his residency at Stanford, he helped design a novel catheter that detects and treats infections. He was a named inventor on multiple invention disclosures and has two filed patents. Dr. Onugha holds an MBA from the University of Cambridge Judge Business School in England. He has co-authored several book chapters and manuscripts, and has presented at multiple national conferences.
