Southcentral Foundation gives $3 million to support children who experience abuse

Donation will be used toward construction of new treatment center, operations at Alaska CARES
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Southcentral Foundation has donated $3 million to Alaska CARES, the state’s largest evaluation center for children experiencing physical and sexual abuse.
The gift – which is the largest donation to date – will be used toward the construction of a new treatment center as well as operational support, helping ensure the continued sustainability of Alaska CARES. The new facility is scheduled to open in April 2019.
“This is a monumental moment for Alaska’s children and families as they begin their healing journey after experiencing the trauma of abuse,” said Suzanne Rudolph, president of Providence Alaska Foundation. “Thank you to Southcentral Foundation for leading the way with your generous gift and continued partnership to provide this valuable service.”
Alaska CARES is the state’s largest Children’s Advocacy Center and serves children, from newborns to age 18 years, from around the state. Alaska CARES is part of a community collaboration that provides treatment in a facility where victim advocates, law enforcement, child protection, tribal health, forensic medicine and mental health professionals are all located under one roof so they can work together to help victims.
Southcentral Foundation has been a longtime partner and contributor to Alaska CARES. In addition to operational support, Southcentral Foundation’s Alaska Native Advocacy Team is co-located at Alaska CARES and serves Alaska Native and American Indian children and families. This collaboration, which is unique among children’s advocacy centers, ensures systems and services are respectful and culturally appropriate.
