Rep. Mike Thompson awards Providence $1.3 million to support permanent supportive housing

In April 2022, Providence submitted a $1.3 million earmark request to Rep. Mike Thompson’s office to help fund permanent supportive housing and recuperative care units in Rohnert Park in fiscal year 2023. Earmarks are funds provided by Congress for projects or programs located within an individual member of Congress’ district. While members receive thousands of applicants, they can only select a few projects. We are honored to share that Providence was selected as a recipient!

Funding for the project was approved in the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package that passed Congress in December 2022. On Jan. 20, 2023, the congressman met with Providence caregivers at the site of the future housing project to celebrate and award the funding.

Named the Providence Rohnert Park House, the building will include 76 permanent supportive housing units for seniors aged 55+ who have a documented history of long-term homelessness and incomes at or below 30 percent of the area’s median income. The building will also have six recuperative care units, where residents will have access to wrap-around supportive services that address the health and housing needs of each resident.

“We are incredibly grateful for Representative Thompson’s ongoing support. This funding will support at-risk seniors who are poor, vulnerable, and experiencing homelessness throughout our county,” said Dana Codron, regional director of community health investment in Northern California. “We are incredibly thankful for this funding that will help end homelessness and support the health and overall quality of life for many members of our community.”

Construction of the Providence Rohnert Park House will be completed in 2025. This is an exciting construction project, and we will share key milestones with our community members to keep you updated.
