Tenth Consecutive Year for Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance’s Transitional Care Center 

Second Consecutive Year for Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro’s Sub-Acute Care Center

Once again, two Providence skilled nursing homes in the South Bay were named among U.S. News & World Report’s Best Nursing Homes. The prestigious designation recognizes the hospital’s commitment to delivering exceptional care to their residents, including both long- and short-term care and rehabilitation services.   

The 87-bed Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance’s Transitional Care Center was honored for the tenth year in a row. The center provides short-term nursing and rehabilitation care for patients who are discharged from hospitals but are not yet ready to return home after. 

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro’s Sub-Acute Care Center, which primarily cares for patients reliant on ventilators and/or tracheostomy, an artificial airway was honored for the second year in a row. The center provides long-term rehabilitation and home care. The 125-bed center also offers therapy for patients who have suffered debilitating neurological injuries, before they transition to an acute rehabilitation unit.  

For the 2024 edition, U.S. News rated more than 15,000 nursing homes on patient and resident outcomes, such as infection rates; staffing levels; potentially inappropriate reliance on antipsychotic drugs; health inspection results and other indicators of quality. 

The Best Nursing Homes ratings, U.S. News evaluated each nursing home’s performance using a variety of quality measures obtained from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The U.S. News methodology factors data such as resident care, safety and outcomes. Both short- and long-term ratings include data on nurse staffing, use of antipsychotic drugs and success in preventing ER and hospital visits. The long-term care rating also includes measures of whether a home changed ownership and how well they were staffed on weekends.
