Women’s Choice Award® names SRMH one of America’s Best Hospitals for Comprehensive Breast Care for 10th year

The Women’s Choice Award®, a trusted referral source for the best quality in health care, has named Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital one of America’s Best Hospitals for Comprehensive Breast Care for the 10th year in a row.

“This significant milestone reflects our nurses, physicians and caregivers’ commitment to providing consistently compassionate and personalized care to all of our neighbors,” said Garry Olney, chief executive for Providence in Northern California. “We are humbled to be recognized as the trusted provider our community members rely on to accurately screen, diagnose and treat breast cancer.”

The methodology used for this award is unique in that it evaluates Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences. The award signifies that Memorial is in the top 7% of hospitals offering breast care services.

"At Santa Rosa Memorial, women have access to state-of-the-art equipment to screen and diagnose breast cancer,” said Lisa Tito, M.D., Providence Medical Group breast surgeon. “Coupled with our multidisciplinary team of dedicated, high-quality physicians, women experience excellent breast cancer care at our hospital."

According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women behind lung cancer.

“As a breast cancer survivor, I learned the hard way that where you choose to have your mammogram can have a profound impact on your outcome and experience,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award, who was the victim of poor imaging and misdiagnosis. Doctors eventually discovered her breast cancer after a surgical biopsy and two lumpectomies at the age of 42. Her experience was the inspiration behind creating the Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospitals following her career as former publisher of Working Woman and Working Mother magazines.

“We empower women to make educated, confident decisions about their health,” said Passi. “By letting women know which breast centers in their area are among America’s best, we are able to reduce risk by helping them make better decisions and smarter health care choices.”

“We are honored to receive this award once again. I am incredibly proud of our team,” said Michelle Heron, director of oncology operations. “It is thanks to our amazing team that we have access to the most advanced breast imaging equipment, clinical trials and the latest research-based therapies available today."

Award winners met the highest standards of breast care in the nation as set by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) or the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers (NQMBC) and carry the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) seal from the American College of Radiology.
