  • This Nov. 11, we commemorate Veterans Day, a significant occasion to honor the service and sacrifices of all U.S. military veterans. We encourage you to take this day to acknowledge and support the military veterans in your community, who have dedicated themselves to our nation’s safety and protection.

Recognizing Veterans Day

At Providence, we value the tremendous contributions that military veterans make to our workforce. Their diverse experiences, adaptability, teamwork, dedication to the Providence mission, extensive training, leadership and resilience greatly enhance our collective achievements. We also extend our gratitude to our patients and the communities of military veterans for your service and dedication. It is our privilege and commitment to serve you with compassionate care.

Background:

In 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, signaling a temporary halt to fighting, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany, marking the ceasefire of hostilities in what was then called "the Great War." The following year, this date was observed as Armistice Day in various countries. In the United States, it was established as a federal holiday in 1938. After World War II and the Korean War, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to honor all U.S. veterans.

How to celebrate and support:

Happy Veterans Day to all our patients, communities and caregivers who have served in the U.S. military. We thank you for your service, sacrifice and courage. We hope that today, and every day, you receive the recognition you deserve for your dedication to our nation.
