Providence's San Fernando Valley Hospitals Provide $175,000 In Grants To Nonprofit Partners Addressing Community Needs
The Mother Joseph grants, named for the pioneering Catholic sister who brought the Sisters of Providence to the West, were provided by Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, Burbank; Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Mission Hills; and Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.
They were earmarked for partnering organization that provide mental health care, access to health care and housing to low-income families and individuals.
“At Providence, our vision ‘health for a better world’ is driven by a belief that health is a human right, and every person deserves the chance to live their healthiest life,” said Anthony Ortiz Luis, director of Providence health investment in the Valley. “We do a bit of that today by partnering with each of your organization to advance access to health care and to improve the health of our communities.”
The Partners for a Better Community grants come from funding for community investment, a tradition that dates back nearly 170 years when the Sisters arrived in Washington and began partnering with like-minded people to build hospitals, schools and orphanages.
This year’s grants were based on a community health needs assessment that identified access to care, homelessness/housing instability and mental health, including substance misuse, as top concerns.
Providence frequently partners with organizations with expertise in serving the needs of individual communities with the goal of treating people where they live and meeting basic needs to help avoid serious health issues.
