Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center ranked high performing for maternity care
NAPA (Dec. 11, 2024) – U.S. News & World Report has once again recognized Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center for high performance with a maternity care award that measures quality and safety for mother and baby.
U.S. News began evaluating maternity care hospitals in 2021, rating hospitals that provide labor and delivery services and submit detailed data to the publication for analysis. Best Hospitals for Maternity Care assists expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care team, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity services that best meets their family’s needs.
“This award reflects our caregivers and physicians’ commitment to providing a personalized, compassionate and safe delivery,” said Amy Herold, M.D., OB/GYN, chief administrative officer and chief medical officer at Queen of the Valley. “We continue to focus on reducing avoidable C-section rates and recognizing patients’ unique needs to ensure mothers have the knowledge they need to care for themselves and their newborns when they return home.”
Providence Queen of the Valley earned a High Performing designation in recognition of maternity care based on exemplary performance on a range of objective quality measures, such as rates of avoidable Cesarean-sections, unexpected newborn complication rates, birthing-friendly practices, transparency on racial/ethnic disparities and exclusive breast milk feeding.
Of the record 817 hospitals that submitted maternity data to U.S. News this year, 414 earned the high performing rating.
“The hospitals recognized by U.S. News as Best Hospitals for Maternity Care showcase exceptional care for expectant parents,” said Jennifer Winston, Ph.D., health data scientist at U.S. News. “These hospitals demonstrate significantly lower C-section rates and severe unexpected newborn complications compared to hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.”
