Providence names Cherodeep (Chero) Goswami chief information and digital officer
Providence, one of the nation’s leading health care systems serving seven western states with 51 hospitals, 1,100 physician clinics and 129,000 caregivers, announced today that following a national search, Cherodeep (Chero) Goswami has been appointed its new chief information and digital officer, effective May 12.
Goswami currently serves as a system vice president and chief information and digital officer for the University of Wisconsin Health System (UW Health) leading strategic direction for IT, informatics, and other digital activities.
“Providence is delighted to welcome Chero Goswami as our new chief information and digital officer. His impactful leadership, wide technology and digital experience, and track record of optimizing patient outcomes, enhancing physician effectiveness, and improving health care delivery makes him the perfect candidate for this leadership position,” said Erik Wexler, Providence president and CEO.
Goswami will be responsible for IS strategy and operations, including cybersecurity, deployment of artificial intelligence, and internally focused areas of the digital platform.
He’ll also help lead and advance key strategic priorities, including easing the administrative burden for our physicians and clinicians, supporting operational rigor and discipline, and implementing technology solutions that extend the Mission of Providence to more individuals, especially the poor and vulnerable.
“The chief information and digital officer role is critical for helping Providence support our transformation efforts, drive technological advancements and investments, safeguard sensitive health information, and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” Wexler said.
“I’m looking forward to my role and serving a leading Mission-driven organization like Providence,” Goswami said. “In today’s world, technology is a key enabler in transforming health care by improving patient outcomes, increasing efficiency, and enhancing access. The right balance of technology, compassion and empathy is the key to delivering high quality, accessible care.”
Prior to his role at UW Health, Goswami worked at BJC Healthcare in St. Louis, where he served in a variety of leadership roles, including vice president for business relationship management. He has also worked in other industries, including finance, telecom and transportation.
Goswami received dual master's degrees from Webster University and is an alumnus of Columbia University, New York.
