Timothy J. Muhonen, MD

A long-held interest in science and medicine inspired Timothy Muhonen, MD, to become a physician. But his decision to specialize in family medicine was made out of innate curiosity, a sincere interest in population health, and a dedication to rural medicine. “I felt like primary care gave me the best opportunity to treat the widest array of illnesses,” he says.

In his practice, Dr. Muhonen follows a simple philosophy: “Deliver appropriate and excellent care to the patient.” He believes that his most important role as a physician is to teach people about all aspects of their health. “Patient education is the most fulfilling thing about being a medical provider,” Dr. Muhonen says. “I truly enjoy witnessing people thrive in their health.”

Dr. Muhonen earned his bachelor’s degree in zoology from Idaho State University and his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at St. Mary’s Family Practice in Grand Junction, Colorado, and received the Tacoma Family Medicine Rural Family Practice Fellowship.

Originally from Pocatello, Idaho, Dr. Muhonen lives with his wife and children in Southern Oregon.
