About Joan C. Nelson
“I enjoy helping people understand their own bodies so they can become healthier – physically, mentally and socially,” says Joan. That’s why she became a PA. As an advocate for her patients, she emphasizes the importance of healthy lifestyle behaviors, along with medical care, in achieving and maintaining health. “My role is to share medical knowledge and evidence and to help people apply that information to their own lives,” she says.
Joan enjoys seeing patients of all ages, especially families, and growing with them over time. “The more I understand the people and values that are important to you, the better I can assist in your health care,” she says. “Building patient relationships based on mutual trust and respect is an honor and a privilege.”
A graduate of Beloit College in Wisconsin, Joan earned her PA degree at Duke University in Durham, NC and her Master of Public Health at Portland State University.
Joan spends most of her free time outside, hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing. When the weather sends her indoors, she enjoys reading good books from her local library.
